Description
See the pins move, then pick it blind
This set pairs Dangerfield's two repinnable practice locks so you can train the way good pickers learn. The brushed aluminum cutaway lets you watch every pin stack rise to the shear line while you feel it through the pick and tensioner. The mortise kit takes the window away, so you find out whether your hands can read the same feedback without the visual clues.
Both locks come apart for repinning, so neither one turns into desk clutter once you can open it. Change the pins, add security pins, and you have a new lock to beat.
Buy both together and save 10% on the separate prices.
What's in the set
Dangerfield Aluminum Cutaway Repinnable Lock
The lock that shows you what is happening
A solid 10.6 oz (300 g) brushed aluminum trainer with a cutaway window over a repinnable six-pin core. You can see pin stacks, oversets and false sets as they happen, with real metal weight and tension response under your hands.
- Six pin chambers you can load with two, three, four, five or six pins.
- Beveled cut edges, so the lock is comfortable to hold and inspect.
- Tweezers, spare pins and an Allen key come with it for repinning.
Dangerfield Repinnable Mortise Practice Lock Kit
The lock that tests what you have learned
A genuine mortise cylinder with no window, so every set has to come from feel. Back out the grub screws with the hex key, swap the pin stacks, and the same lock behaves like a brand new one.
- 30+ pins, including standard key pins plus spool and serrated security pins.
- Springs and stoppers to rebuild any chamber exactly how you want it.
- The hex Allen key that opens the lock for repinning.
How to train with both locks
- Learn on the cutaway. Start with two or three pins and light tension. Watch each pin reach the shear line and match what you see to the small click and give you feel through the tensioner.
- Prove it on the mortise lock. Load the same number of standard pins in the mortise cylinder and pick it without looking. If it fights you, go back to the cutaway and watch where your tension or lift goes wrong.
- Add pins, then security pins. Build both locks up to full pinning. When standard pins feel routine, drop spool and serrated pins into the mortise lock and learn false sets and counter-rotation. Use the cutaway to see why they happen.
- Keep changing the lock. Write down each setup, change one thing at a time, and repin before your hands start remembering one lock instead of learning to pick.

For a focused 10-pick set, choose Dangerfield Serenity. If you want the theory behind binding order, security pins and tension, the Beginners Visual Guide explains it with 200+ color illustrations.
