Is lock picking legal?

In most US states, yes: owning lock picks and using them on your own locks is legal. A few states treat carrying them differently, so check your local rules if you carry. Lockpicking is a recognized hobby, a sport with clubs and competitions, and a working trade skill.

Is lock picking hard to learn?

Most people open their first practice lock in the first week, plenty on the first day. A clear practice lock shows you what the pins are doing while your fingers learn the feel. From there it's repetition, not talent.

What should I buy first?

Do your kits come with instructions?
