Can You Pick a Kwikset Lock? 

Yes. Standard Kwikset locks basically use the simple pin tumbler mechanism, which is common among most deadbolts and padlocks. This is what makes it fairly simple to pick, especially with an original Lishi lock pick tool. 

The Lishi KW1 works great for reading and picking a five-pin lock. Meanwhile, the KW5 tool works for a six-pin Kwikset lock. However, both the KW1 and the KW5 aren’t designed to open the Kwikset Smart Lock yet. 

How to Pick Locks Using the Lishi Kwikset Tool

It’s easy to pick a standard Kwikset lock with original Lishi lock picks. They use a classic single-pin picking method and require a slightly different method to open. However, with an original Lishi KW1 tool, you won’t have a problem with security pins with its needle indicator, which will tell you how much you’re depressing the pins. 

Follow These Simple Steps

1. Pull the pick all the way back, and gently insert the original Lishi Kwikset KW1 tool into the lock right up to the shoulder.
2. Set the tension wrench. Then, gently insert the pick and run it along with the pins. When you feel one that’s more solid than the rest, that’s when you know you’ve got its binding. 
3. After finding the binding pin, place the pick’s tip into the center of the pin. Minimize tension to the plug as you feel the pins slightly move. 
4. Push the binding pin upward, making sure it hits the sheer line. You’ll know if it’s in the sheer line if you hear a click.
5. With the tension tool, turn the plug. You’ve now opened the pin lock using the original Lishi KW1 tool.
