How to Pick Tubular Locks With Ease

Tubular locks are high-security locks designed to make picking difficult. The pins are set in a circle with the key being a tube-like item with cuts around the outside.

Comes with a Decoder key so you can have a new key cut once picked.

The pick is a tube with several blades around the outside, each corresponding to a pin in the lock. When inserted into the lock, the pins cause a resistance, causing the blades to set at different levels. When fully inserted into the lock, the different levels of the blades will look exactly like the correct key - it's like a skeleton key for tubular locks.

7-, 8-, and 10-pin tubular locks all have the same keyway size, just a different number of pins. However, because of the different spacing of the pins, you require a different pick for each pin quantity.

How to Use Tubular Lock Picks

Follow these steps to successfully use tubular picks:

1. Ensure the lock and tumblers are free.
2. Slide the lock pick needles back and forth until they’re able to move freely.
3. Push the lock pick needles slightly farther from the end of the pick. On a hard flat surface, press the end to align the needles with the pick’s end.
4. Insert the tubular pick into the lock as far as it can go. This will raise all the pins in a 7-pin tubular to each of their shear lines.
5. Withdraw the tubular lock pick ever so slightly a few times. At the same time, place tension by torquing the lock picks left or right. You’ll know the lock has been picked when all seven pins are trapped at the shear lines.
6. Tighten the collar on the pick when removing it to keep any of the picking needles from moving. 
7. Measure the depths of the tubular lock needles using a decoder to create a key for the lock.

The adjustable tubular manipulation pick - TPXA-10 includes a solid, removable/replaceable guide pin.  Though a guide pin is unnecessary for picking tubular locks, it assists picking by lining up the pick in the lock effectively.  The new solid guide pin can be removed by the user for use in tubular locks that do not have the corresponding notch cut in the core, where normally a guide pin would fit.  And, the new solid guide pin can be replaced by the user, should replacing the pin become necessary (replacement parts sold HERE).
