Product Description
'Shove-It' - The Classic Door Shim Tool You Can't be Without.
Sometimes, locksmiths make use of fairly complex tools to open locks without damaging them and gaining access to the inside of a building. However, plenty of times you don’t need a complicated tool to bypass a lock, or you might not have the time to pick a lock in the traditional manner.
Thankfully, in the case of many door locks, a simple shove of a long, thin tool between the frame of the door and the lock housing is all it takes.
In these situations, what you need is a Shove-It tool, sometimes referred to as a Shovit tool. A favorite of first responders and firefighters for gaining entry to indoor residential and office lock doors quickly, easily, and with a minimum of training or expertise, the Shove-It tool acts by reaching through behind the plunger to engage the latch itself while bypassing the actual lock.
The Classic Bypass Tool
Shove It tools have proven themselves in countless instances. There’s a reason this simple shove knife-style pick is practically a standard issue in just about every firefighter’s kit bag - when you need entrance into a building in a hurry, this little device can quite literally be a lifesaver.
When there’s someone stranded on the other side of that door during an emergency, this is true in more ways than just one!
The Shovit tool is for more than just emergencies, though. Featuring a proven design that’s made it a stock tool for years, it’s durable, lightweight, discreet, and made of high-quality materials - a classic design you can use with confidence and ease.
Allowing the handler to gain fast, damage-free access, and works from either side of the door it's applied to, the Shovit tool, at just 26cm long and 2cm wide, is a standard part of the locksmith’s stock in trade.
How It Works
These tools help you gain entry in a multitude of situations quickly and easily. You slip the tool into the gap between the door and the jam and lower it into position directly above the plunger on the latch. You then push down and forward slowly and intermittently in a jiggling motion; thanks to the shape of the tool, this will slowly push the plunger back into the lock and allow you to bypass and then gain entry.
These shove tools are ideal for a number of simple locks that you would find on residential or commercial buildings, but they’re not ideal for every situation. If you have to bypass a door with a deadbolt, for example, it doesn’t matter how well you shove the device behind the door’s plunger - that deadbolt will hold that door in place.
Additionally, you need to be careful that, while attempting to bypass a plunger, that you don’t push any anti-loiding pin back into the lock at the same time, as this will likewise prevent you from performing a successful bypass.
