Light Tension Wins
An EPG works by transferring rapid kinetic energy through the needle into the pin stack. The tension tool is still doing the lock picking. Use just enough pressure to catch pins at the shear line, then pulse the trigger for roughly half a second to one second at a time.
Keep the needle free of warding and clear of the tension tool. If the motor runs but the needle stops moving, release the trigger, pull the needle out, and reset. Practice on loose cylinders first, never on a lock you rely on.

Will it open every cylinder lock?
No EPG should be sold that way. It works best on suitable pin tumbler cylinders when the needle moves freely and tension is light. Tight keyways, awkward warding, security pins, worn locks, and heavy tension can all stop progress.

How much tension should I use?
Less than you probably think. Too much tension binds the pins and blocks the kinetic action. Use light pressure, pulse the trigger briefly, and adjust both tension and needle swing in small changes.
What should I practice on first?
Use loose practice cylinders or old locks that are not in service. Do not practice on a lock you need to keep working. Needles can snap, old cylinders can bind, and heavy-handed practice can damage a lock.
