Jackknife Lock Pick Set: picks that fold into your pocket
This is a folding pocket lock pick set built like a penknife. The picks and a turning tool swing out of the handle when you need them and tuck back inside when you do not, so the working tips stay protected and the whole thing rides flat in a pocket or EDC kit. Open it up, set tension, and pick. Fold it shut and it reads as an everyday folder.

A real pick set in a folding pocket body
Most pin tumbler locks open the same way. You hold light turning pressure on the plug with a tension tool, then push the pins up to the shear line one at a time with a pick, or sweep them with a rake. The Jackknife gives you that hooks-and-tension setup, only the tools live inside a folding handle instead of a flat wallet. Swing out the profile you want, keep the rest closed, and work the lock.
It is a genuine practice and EDC tool, not a novelty. The fold-away body is the point: it keeps the tips from snagging or bending in a pocket, and it means you can carry picking gear without carrying a full roll.

Set tension, then work the pins one at a time
Open the turning tool and rest it at the bottom of the keyway with light, steady rotational pressure, just enough to bind a pin. Swing out a pick, reach to the back of the keyway, and lift each pin until you feel it set with a tiny give. Work toward you, pin by pin, and the plug turns once the last one sets.
Light hands win here. If the feedback goes muddy, ease off the tension and read the lock again. Rake gently first to find a quick open, then single-pin pick when a lock needs the precise approach.
Learn the feel before you carry it everywhere
Use lock picking tools only on locks you own or have clear permission to open, and check the law where you live before you carry. This is a hobby, sport, and trade skill, kept honest.
Three ways to buy, picked for where you are
The folding Jackknife is the same in every option. The difference is whether you add the practice locks and the how-to book that turn it into a complete learning setup.
| Kit | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Jack Knife only | The folding pocket pick set on its own | Pickers who already own practice locks and a guide |
| Jack Knife with Practice Lock + How-to Book | The set, one practice lock, and the how-to book | A complete starting point in one box |
| Jack Knife with 3 Essential Practice Locks + How-to Book | The set, three progressive practice locks, and the how-to book | A real learning curve from easy to harder locks |

Quick answers from the LockPickWorld bench
What is this used for?
Picking standard pin tumbler locks for practice and EDC carry. It gives you picks and a tension tool in a folding pocket body, so you can carry and train without a full roll.
Is it good for a beginner?
Yes. Pick the kit with practice locks and the how-to book, work slowly on a clear lock first, and you have a complete way to learn the basics.
What is the difference between the kits?
The folding pick set is identical in all three. The kits add a practice lock, or three progressive practice locks, plus the how-to book, so you get more to learn on.
Will it open any lock?
It is made for standard pin tumbler locks. Real opens still depend on the lock, its condition, and your technique, so practise on a known lock and build the feel before harder ones.
Carry your picks, keep practising
Open the Jackknife when you want to work a lock, fold it shut when you are done. Pick the kit that matches where you are, take your time on a practice lock, and let the pins teach you.
