NEW! Stage 2 Clear practice lock with two spool pins added for medium difficulty picking
Learning to pick locks can be frustrating, and you feel like you might as well be rattling a knitting needle around in the lock. These days though, it can be a warm, confidence building, pleasure - as we have Clear Practice Locks. Let's start picking locks!
This version is our new spool pin version. Spool pins are security pins put into many locks today to make picking harder. Having a spool pin clear lock means two things: You can learn how to identify and pick them, and you can take a step up from your previous clear padlock before tackling a real lock. Making your lock picking journey smoother, and more knowledgeable.
Here's our 7 pin Clear Practice Padlock with SPOOL PINS, complete with 2 keys so you can see how keys - and picks - work when in the lock. This is a great how-to device for learning, education and improving your lock picking technique. Give your lock picking some vision and realise your potential.
- Transparent casing allows learners to see how all the moving parts work
- Visible pin movement when a key is inserted and turned
- Visible up and down pin motions as the key slides into and out of the lock
- Works perfectly as a fully functional normal padlock

Spool pins did not engage
The spool pins, and most of the others, were already at the sheer line before trying to pick it. Only 2 out of 6 pins were holding the lock in place. The spool pins did not engage at all. I emailed them about it and they sent me another one but it had THE EXACT SAME issue. I was disappointed to say the least.
Great product for beginners!
I'd had some experience picking locks laying around but this was my first purchase of a targeted training lock. The acrylic is neat to see what's going on while working a given pin.
Spool pin misaligned
One of the spool pins doesn’t appear to drop all the way down when the plug is at rest and remains very close to the shear line. I didn’t find this lock much more challenging than the standard difficulty practice lock.
Probably received a lemon
Being new to lockpicking, I figured that this product might have just been a little harder than I should have bought. However, locksmithing runs in my family so I passed it along to my uncle (30+ years of lockpicking) and he couldn't pick the lock either. Seems like it could have been a good product, I may have just gotten a bad lock.
