There are loads more templates online (like the one below) to use as a guide. Put your personality into your picking and get creative.

Each pack contains FIVE strips.

  • 120mm long
  • 10mm wide
  • 0.7 thick

How to Create Your Own Lock Picks

Decide on the type of lock pick you want to create first—hooks, rakes, or diamonds? Or maybe you’d want a tension wrench? Use our lock-picking tools template, or find other templates online! Once you have your design, use a fine-toothed saw or a similar cutting tool to cut the steel strip to the desired length. The standard length for lock picks is around 120mm, but this can be adjusted to suit your preference.

The next step is shaping the lock pick. Secure the strip in a vise and use files and grinders to shape the tip. You’ll need to be patient, careful, and precise to follow the design. After that, refine the edges and the tip of your lock pick using finer files or sandpaper so you get a smooth surface that won’t damage the lock pins.

For the handle, you can either leave the other end of the strip as is or modify it for a better grip. Some people wrap the handle end with materials like heat-shrink tubing or tape for comfort. Once the pick is shaped, test it on some practice locks so you’ll see how your lock picks work on the pins.
